I Believe....By Steven Schumpert

I Believe…

As we find ourselves surrounded by the sights and sounds of trees and ornaments, lights and music, presents and cards, we know that we are in the midst of Christmas once again.

Everyone knows that the true reason of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and lately we seem to have been robbed of the freedom to praise Him, to place the true meaning of Christmas where it belongs, and to publically proclaim, “Christ our savior is born”.

This cynicism, bitterness, and doubt translate into how some of us celebrate Christmas. For those that have experienced something negative in their lives that has led to a shunning of the Christmas spirit, just remember: the spirit of giving, the spirit of joy, the ways in which we touch the lives of those around us, the happiness of bringing a smile to someone else rises above anything that we can imagine and shows us that believing in the things we can’t see is the greatest belief of all. As Santa says in Miracle on 34th Street, “If we can’t accept anything on faith, then we are doomed to a life dominated by doubt.”

This Christmas, it is my sincere wish that you will find yourself filled with hope, with trust, with faith that there are good things in this world, and that we all can be saved by the power of Jesus Christ in whom we all can be made new, and it is my wish that all of your dreams are on their way. You can’t make yourself believe—you must let yourself believe. This Christmas, what will you wish for? What will you trust Jesus for? Is there enough magic in the stars to make your dreams come true? What will you believe in?
